Workplace bullying is an activity undertaken by an individual or a group of individuals to repeatedly harm 1 or more individuals.

The person who is bullied is often seen to be hesitant about reporting bullying. Reporting hesitation is mainly caused because there is always a threat that the extent of bullying will be increased if the bully gets to know that the he is being reported. There can be many other reasons such as 

1. Fear of complaint being ignored by the management or authorities.

2. Fear of being considered as a week personality.

3. Trying not to make an offence against bully as they fear that bully might get angry at them and will increase the extent of bullying.


It is often seen at workplaces that the victims are being bullied even beyond the original incident, when the management ignores the complaint against the bully. There can be many reasons for such ignorance. For example, when boss himself is a bully- there is no place to complaint against him.


Organizations can help controlling and eliminating bullying by helping people make a complain more comfortable. For this organisation should keep all its employees informed and educated about the processes of making a complaint.

Further an organisation can ensure the following: 

1. Procedure for make anonymous complaints to protect the person from any sort of future threats.

2. By making sound policies to control the bullying at workplace and by taking strict actions against the bullies which may include termination and legal penalties in adverse cases.


Managers can contribute in controlling workplace bullying by keeping an eye on everyone’s behavior. Arranging periodic meetings within a workgroup and encourage people to not get involved in workplace bulling can also help significantly. Managers can also run various social campaigns to educated workers about the consequences of workplace bullying which includes brain-damage and reduced productivity.
